Job Summary
The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, leading and managing the company SMS, ASAP, ERP, and FOQA programs (Part 135).
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), including appointing members of the Safety Review Board, and generating SMS related audits and reports;
- Oversee the company ASAP program and lead the ASAP ERC;
- Company-wide safety promotion, ensuring employees in all departments remain actively engaged with the SMS;
- Develop and update company Safety/Risk Profile and Safety Performance Indicators;
- Lead internal and external safety audits;
- Conduct risk assessments, develop and implement mitigation measures when applicable;
- Conduct management of change evaluations;
- Monitor and develop responses to identified SMS, ASAP, and FOQA safety trends;
- Liaison with Flight Operations and Maintenance management personnel to determine risk mitigation and corrective actions;
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Three plus years of aviation safety management experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) or equivalent in Aviation Safety Management or similar program or an equivalent combination of flight operations education and experience
- Training in the following areas: flight safety philosophy, human factors and the decision- making, accident prevention, the role of the safety officer as advisor to senior management, risk management, accident/incident management, safety management systems, emergency response planning, and incident investigation
Skills & Competencies
- Extensive knowledge of aviation safety programs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Audit manager training
- Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and to exercise independent judgment, discretions and initiative
- Strong verbal, and written communication skills
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to motivate others around safety initiatives
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- On-site
Must be able to lift 25 lbs, stand/sit for long periods
Compensation Data
- The likely salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly other requirements.
